” Somebody said to me, ‘Whenever somebody says your name, a smile comes to their face.’ That’s a great accolade. I strive to keep it that way.”

Clarence Clemons

Naming ceremony

Modern families come in all shapes and sizes. A naming ceremony allows parents to affirm their commitment to the child, gives an opportunity to appoint supporting adults and strengthens family bonds by providing a space where families can be together.

Naming ceremonies are a great way to have a personal and unique celebration. They can be held at home or at a favourite venue, and can be indoor or outdoor. They’re perfect for parents looking for a meaningful way of welcoming their new arrivals.

A naming ceremony also allows for the celebration of unity and strength in a new or growing family. Siblings can play a vital role in the celebration, from writing their own promises as brother or sister, to taking part in a symbolic act of welcome.

There are many symbolic acts that can be included in a naming ceremony such as sand blending, message trees or creating a time capsule. For a discussion on what you could do to make your ceremony special, please get in touch.

Welcoming Ceremony

Welcoming ceremonies provide a wonderful opportunity to celebrate an adopted child joining the family, or to celebrate the new unity of a blended family with a bespoke and joyous event.

Although the format and content can be similar to a naming ceremony, the central theme of a welcoming ceremony is the celebration of pledge making to the child or children.

Adult naming ceremonies

Naming ceremonies are ideal for adults who, for various reasons, choose to affirm a new name. A naming ceremony can help you celebrate a new beginning after a divorce,  or you may feel that the name you were given doesn’t properly reflect who you are. A naming ceremony is also a beautiful way for people with a trans experience to receive name affirmation.
